So sorry to hear your story. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. My mother also passed away from oral cancer and I think sharing these stories is important so others become aware.

I am going to the dentist because I am pretty sure I have oral cancer. I do not smoke or drink but my dentures caused a sore and months later it’s still there and is now hard and white. However it doesn”t seem to be growing fast but it looks like the pictures on the internet. It is located in the floor of my mouth. I’m really afraid to hear what the dentist is going to tell me. Prayers are welcome.

I am so honored to have my dad’s story published on this wonderful foundation. May his death bring awareness to others that they may not have to go through the pain and hurt of oral cancer. Please get checked and stay on top of your health. It can save a lot of unnecessary heartache and pain. For both you and your loved ones. Do not think that it is not cancer. If anything–>Rule it out : ) God Bless you all !!!

Sincerely from a daughter that misses her dad more and more every single minute that he is not with us….

With Love,

Caprice

I have had breast cancer twice and am now fighting small cell lung cancer......neither your disease nor mine is afloat a sea of pink, there are not many organized walks for these cancers but ALL CANCER needs to be eridacated. Please help in our fight -- no more pink ribbons -- just rainbow colored ones represesnting all kinds of cancer. WE GOT THE PINK MESSAGE -- WE ARE AWARE -- we need to beat this monster on all fronts. Once you are well enough (and you wll be) please join me in some sort of effort. We have to get the corporations behind Cancer as a whole -- the retail stores are awash in pink.........Please, Michael, help us all fight all types of cancer -- you can be our spokesperson...

Hello Maria,

So sorry to hear about what your mother is going through. Weakness, difficulty swallowing and talking after treatment is common. It is true, the cancer may come back as there is no real cure for oral cancer. The key to saving a life lies in early detection. We at Fight Oral Cancer Foundation, highly encourage our members to follow up with their after treatment check up schedule every three to six months. We have many survivors living years after their initial diagnosis as a result of regular doctor, dentist or oral surgeon visits. These check ups are crucial.

We do not have a center in Kenya but we are developing partnership with oral cancer hospitals and centers around the world on a daily basis. We will contact you as soon as we have a name or a location for you.

To give your mother encouragement and support at this stage, I recommend reading stories of the survivor or as we like to call them "Our Heroes" on our website. We encourage you and your mother to share your journey with our members as each story can inspire and educate many others. You can simply submit your story in response via email. http://fightoralcancer.org/stories/survivor-stories
We also recommend you to visit http://www.spohnc.org. They have an incredible network of emotional and psychological support for patients with oral cancer.
