Fight Oral Cancer Holding Free Oral Cancer Screening

Fight Oral Cancer Foundation (FOCF) will be holding a free oral cancer screening at Campion Trail, T.W. Richardson Grove Park on September 19th.

Support Groups are an important part of walking through the treatment process for those that have been diagnosed with oral cancer.  SPOHNC (short for Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer) is committed to developing programs to support those that are on that journey.

Last year the Fight Oral Cancer Foundation had the privilege of participating in the SPOHNC fundraiser in Irving. While at the event we conducted free oral cancer screenings. Dr. Fitzgerald screened many attendees and referred 5 attendees to seek further diagnosis from doctors.

FOCF in collaboration with SPOHNC is delighted to be a part of this event again this year on September 19th. We will be conducting free oral cancer screenings.  You are invited to come out to the event and be a part of the great work that SPOHNC is doing to make a difference in the lives of those that have fallen victim to this horrible disease.

Congulatulation for encouraging people and bringin awareness may God reward you.My mother aged 80 in East Africa has undergone surgery of oral cancer of the cheek and has just completed radio therapy which left her weak and with wound and swallowing, talking is difficulty. when I hear the cancer can recur I feel defeated. Do you know of a near cure we could turn to and do you have a centre in our area Kenya.

    Hello Maria,

So sorry to hear about what your mother is going through. Weakness, difficulty swallowing and talking after treatment is common. It is true, the cancer may come back as there is no real cure for oral cancer. The key to saving a life lies in early detection. We at Fight Oral Cancer Foundation, highly encourage our members to follow up with their after treatment check up schedule every three to six months. We have many survivors living years after their initial diagnosis as a result of regular doctor, dentist or oral surgeon visits. These check ups are crucial.

We do not have a center in Kenya but we are developing partnership with oral cancer hospitals and centers around the world on a daily basis. We will contact you as soon as we have a name or a location for you.

To give your mother encouragement and support at this stage, I recommend reading stories of the survivor or as we like to call them “Our Heroes” on our website. We encourage you and your mother to share your journey with our members as each story can inspire and educate many others. You can simply submit your story in response via email. http://fightoralcancer.org/stories/survivor-stories
We also recommend you to visit http://www.spohnc.org. They have an incredible network of emotional and psychological support for patients with oral cancer.
